Education, Skills and Environment
- B.S. Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, related field, or equivalent work experience and certifications.
- A minimal of 5-7 years of related experience in network design, planning and monitoring systems
Specialized Knowledge and Skills
- Required - Certified or administration experience in HPOV products such as Network Node Manager, OVIS, and Operations for Windows and UNIX
- Required - Excellent interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills.
- Required - Candidate must have at least five years hands-on experiences administering, developing and supporting these products.
- Preferred - Certified or administration experience in BMC Patrol or BMC Perform Predict - Preferred
- Preferred - Strong telephony and wide-area network skills including SS7, frame relay, TCP/IP, ISDN. Knowledge of SS7 architecture and technology
- Preferred - Shell scripting, and strong Unix experience.
- Preferred - Cisco switch with expertise in VLAN configuration, Traffic analysis, Cisco Works 2000, and network management systems.
Equipment and Applications
- Heavy (4-7 hours) day to day PC and application interaction.

- General office environment.
- Could require long hours in a fast-paced and high pressure environment.

Job Description
Basic Purpose:
Primarily responsible for maintaining and managing all monitoring systems and applications, evaluate and integrate new technology as it applies to the overall architecture of XIUS-bcgiâs monitoring platform. Coordinate within the XIUS-bcgi business units as needed to insure monitoring requirements are satisfied. Work with groups within the Network Operations organization to monitor events, deploy, integrate, configure and establish escalation procedures as needed to quickly detect, isolate, restore or escalate issues to the appropriate customers or support groups.
Duties and Responsibilities:
40% - Administer, develop, and maintain monitoring systems. Interface with vendors, evaluate new products and make recommendations to the Director of Network Operations.
- Plan and develop budget proposals for new equipment and technology to provide optimum monitoring, security and system performance.
- Analyze monitoring logs to identify problem trends and causes and recommend solutions to correct.
- Write UNIX, PERL, and a Java script for automation monitoring needs to provide automated event correlation, validation and escalation.
- Provide necessary training to further develop the skill-set of the Monitoring Systems Technician. Train users in the use of monitoring systems hardware and applications.
- Develop algorithms for event correlation engine to be integrated with HP OpenView.
- Configure and install SNMP events and MIB parameters as needed to identify system bottlenecks and to provide accurate and timely alarm notification.
- Develop procedures and documentation of all monitoring systems and services.
30% - Work with the Network Operations Center, Production Application Support, UNIX, & WAN Engineering teams testing and implementing remote monitoring systems. Work with Performance Analysis, Development, QA and QC departments to develop, test, and integrate new monitoring technologies and performance measurement services.
20% - Assist and define in the configuration and management of all monitoring systems, such as:

⢠HP OpenView NNM Knowledge of any of the other applications would be a benefit
⢠OVIS
⢠Solar Winds
⢠BMC
⢠SS7 monitoring
⢠Nagios
Work with associated vendors or customers to maintain software currency and to resolve technical issues.
10% - Work independently and on technical teams as needed to represent the NOC regarding system changes, integration, modifications and changes that may impact production systems. Work on special projects, as assigned by the reporting manager .
